여경섭의 해찰하는 미술

여경섭의 작업은 특정 장르나 형식에 고정되지 않고 전방위적으로 확장된다. 

조각, 회화, 사진, 퍼포먼스에서 드로잉과 야외 설치에 이르기까지 그의 작업은 매체를 가로지르며, 선형적으로 축적되기보다 흩어지고, 그 흩어짐 속에서 다시 연결된다.  이 전시는 그러한 궤적을 따라가는 시도이다. 단일한 중심을 설정하기보다 서로 다른 지점들을 잠정적으로 연결하며 작업의 흐름을 드러내고자 한다.

전시는 작가의 작업 생성 원리를 ‘자연적·사회적·생태적 발생’이라는 세 범주로 나누어 구성된다.  1전시실에서는 생태 탐방 드로잉과 설치 작업을, 2전시실에서는 먼지로 구현된 국제적 상징과 이를 포착한 사진 작업을, 3전시실에서는 국제적 연대의 행위와 정치적 이데올로기를 다룬 작업을 선보인다. 각 전시실의 작업은 서로 다른 방식으로 형성되지만, 이곳에서는 하나의 흐름 속에 놓인다. 생태적 드로잉, 먼지의 이미지, 연대의 몸짓, 사유의 흔적들은 서로를 가로지르며 배치된다. 이들은 분류를 위해 존재하기보다 서로의 경계를 흐리고 넘나든다. 

입구에 설치된 「Drawing Plant(그림 그리는 식물)」은 이러한 작업 세계를 함축적으로 보여준다. 감지 장치와 식물, 기계적 작동이 결합된 이 작업은 생성과 반응, 우연과 개입이 교차하는 지점을 드러낸다.

전시 곳곳에 배치된 ‘끼어들기’ 작업들은 단일한 해석으로의 수렴을 유보한다. 반복은 동일성의 재현이 아니라 차이를 생산하는 과정이며, 작업은 매번 다른 방식으로 생성된다. 이로써 전시는 하나의 관점으로 환원되지 않고, 어긋나고 이동하는 시선들 속에서 유기적으로 연결된다.

여경섭의 작업은 완결된 결과가 아니라 하나의 지속적인 발생이다. 각각의 작업은 하나의 순간으로 나타나며 곧 다른 가능성으로 전이한다. 따라서 어떤 분류나 해석도 이를 고정할 수 없다. 그의 작업은 끊임없이 다시 구성되고 해체되며, 바로 그 과정 속에서 존재한다.

2026년 GLEOSA 초대작가 여경섭(b.1971)은 공주대학교 사범대학 미술교육과를 졸업했다. 이후 독일 베를린 종합예술대학교(UDK Berlin)를 졸업(지도교수 디터 아펠트 Dieter Appelt)하고 같은 대학의 대학원과정에서 스탠 더글라스(Stan Douglas) 교수 지도로 석사과정을 졸업(Meisterschüler)했다. 2008 독일, 디프링 상(Diffring Award, JDF, Germany)을 수상했으며, 현재는 목원대학교 사범대학 미술교육과 교수로 재직하고 있다.

이번 GLEOSA 전시는 그의 23번째 개인전이다.

Haechal (Wandering_Strew) Art of Yeo Kyungseop

Yeo Kyungseop’s work does not remain fixed within a specific genre or format but expands in all directions. From sculpture, painting, photography, and performance to drawing and outdoor installation, his practice traverses media—accumulating not in a linear manner, but dispersing, and through that dispersal, reconnecting. This exhibition is an attempt to trace such a trajectory. Rather than establishing a single center, it tentatively links disparate points to reveal the flow of his work.

The exhibition is structured around three categories that articulate the generative principles of the artist’s practice: natural, social, and ecological emergence. The first gallery presents ecological exploration drawings and installation works; the second gallery features internationally symbolic forms rendered in dust, along with photographic works capturing them; the third gallery introduces works addressing acts of international solidarity and political ideology.

Although the works in each gallery are formed through different processes, they are placed here within a single continuum. Ecological drawings, images of dust, gestures of solidarity, and traces of thought intersect and are arranged across one another. They exist not for classification, but to blur and traverse each other’s boundaries.

At the entrance, “Drawing Plant” encapsulates this artistic world. Combining sensors, plants, and mechanical operations, the work reveals a point where generation and reaction, chance and intervention intersect.

The “intervening” works dispersed throughout the exhibition suspend convergence toward a singular interpretation. Repetition is not the reproduction of sameness, but a process that produces difference, and each work emerges in a different way every time. In this way, the exhibition resists reduction to a single perspective, instead forming organic connections through misaligned and shifting viewpoints.

Yeo Kyungseop’s work is not a completed result, but an ongoing emergence. Each piece appears as a moment and soon transitions into other possibilities. Thus, no classification or interpretation can fix it in place. His work is constantly reconfigured and dismantled, existing through that very process.

Yeo Kyungseop (b. 1971), the invited artist for the 2026 GLEOSA exhibition, graduated from the Department of Art Education at Kongju National University. He later studied at the Berlin University of the Arts (UdK Berlin), where he completed his studies under Professor Dieter Appelt, and went on to complete his Meisterschüler (postgraduate master class) under Professor Stan Douglas. In 2008, he received the Diffring Award (JDF, Germany), and he is currently a professor in the Department of Art Education at Mokwon University.

This GLEOSA exhibition marks his 23nd solo exhibition.
